Prosecutors Accuse Man of Stealing $88,000, Posting Photos of Cash Online

Pro-tip for all those would-be bank robbers and embezzlers out there, flashing cash and posing with brand new cars may not be the way to get away with your crimes.

Prosecutors say a former bank employee in Charlotte, North Carolina allegedly stole $88,000 from the bank's vault where he worked and he wasn't shy about flashing the cash he stole on social media.

Arlando Henderson, 29, was arrested in San Diego by the FBI this week after a criminal indictment was unsealed this week in federal court. According to the press release from the United States Attorney's Office Western District of North Carolina, Henderson allegedly took bank customers' cash deposits out of the bank vault during the course of the last year. He would often deposit that money into an ATM near the bank where he worked. Henderson would then destroy certain documents and make false entries in the bank's books to cover up his theft.

Henderson's Instagram and Facebook social media accounts contain multiple photos of posing with stacks of cash and including several from September of him in front of a brand-new white Mercedes-Benz. The U.S. Attorney's Office says he used the ill-gotten gains to make a $20,000 down payment on a new Mercedes-Benz and allegedly falsified documents to obtain a car loan from another financial institution to cover the rest.

"Throughout July and August 2019, Henderson used a social media account to post several pictures of him holding large stacks of cash," according to the release.

The 29-year-old Henderson has been charged with 19 counts of theft, embezzlement, and misapplication. He's also charged with 12 counts of making false entries and two counts of financial institution fraud. If convicted on all charges, he faces up to 30 years in prison and a $1 million fine. Henderson is also charged with transactional money laundering, which carries the additional penalty of 10 years in prison and a $250,000 fine.
