President Trump Weighs In On Jussie Smollett Scandal

Hours after Empire star Jussie Smollett was charged with felony disorderly conduct for filing an allegedly false police report relating to an attack he claimed was committed by a pair of men who yelled racist and homophobic slurs, President Donald Trump weighed in on Twitter.

The president defended his supporters, who were blamed for the attack, which Chicago police say was orchestrated by Smollett, asking "What about MAGA and the tens of millions of people you insulted with your racist and dangerous comments!? "

The Superintendent of Police, Eddie Johnson, revealed the Empire actor was "dissatisfied with his salary," and took "drastic and illegal tactics to gain attention." Johnson added that Smollett "concocted a story" about an alleged hate crime that "took advantage of the pain and anger of racism to promote his career."

During the attack, Smollett claimed that the two masked men put a rope around his neck, poured bleach on him and yelled "This is MAGA country."

If convicted, Smollett faces up to three years behind bars.
